About
Juliette Gauthier, mezzo-soprano, began her musical studies with the violin before studying the piano and graduated from the Créteil Conservatoire in Jacqueline Bourgès-Maunoury’s class. Juliette developed a passion for singing at an early age : she first studied at the Vincennes Conservatoire, then the Département Supérieur pour Jeunes Chanteurs at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris, before joining the C.N.S.M.D.P. at the age of 19.
She became a member of the Académie Favart at the Opéra-Comique for the 2023/2024 season, and obtained her Master’s degree in singing from the CNSMDP in Alain Buet’s class in June 2024.
She continued her training with Elsa Lévy and Hasnaa Bennani, and took part in various masterclasses with Dame Felicity Lott, Iñaki Encina Oyon, Irène Kudela, Benoît Dratwicki, Chantal Santon, Hervé Niquet, Véronique Gens, Johannes Pramsohler, Mathieu Pordoy and Karine Deshayes. In 2023 and 2024, she participated in the Académie Baroque internationale du Périgord Noir (dir. Inaki Encina Oyon) and the Académie Européenne de Musique Ancienne in Vannes.
In 2025, she won the Clermont Ferrand competition, which awarded her the alto part in Handel’s Messiah and the roles of Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas.
In 2023, she won the Bourse Menda, a scolarship awarded by the Opéra- Comique and the Fondation de France. In 2023, Juliette understudied the title role of Fantasio (Offenbach) in an Opéra-Comique production directed by Laurent Campellone and staged by Thomas Jolly.
She sang at the Musée d’Orsay in « L’amour à la Française », directed by Héloïse Serazin in collaboration with the Palazzetto Bru Zane and Hervé Niquet.
She made her stage debut at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in the role of the Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) with the Ensemble Diderot conducted by Johannes Pramsohler.
She then sang as soloist in Bach’s Magnificat with the Maîtrise de Notre- Dame, and took part as soloist in several premieres at the Église Saint-Roch (Rémi Guillard) and the Cité de la Musique (Alex Cecchetti), and was recitalist in Thierry Machuel’s Terra Boléro in a production with the Chœur de Grenelle.
She has also recorded several children’s stories by Coralie Fayolle, commissioned by the Académie Musicale de Villecroze.
Juliette recently sang in the « Dolce Follia » programme with the baroque ensemble Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu conducted by Franck-Emmanuel Comte as part of the Festival En Voix! organised by the Théâtre de Compiègne with whom she reunited last summer for two additional programs.
She gave a recital at the Prom’s des Journées Ravel with pianist Guillem Aubry and at the Arcades festival in Périgord with Jennifer Fichet.
Juliette also performed with the ARCAL in a pocket version of the opera Talestri, Reggina delle Amazzoni (Marie-Antoinette de Bavière) at the Abbaye de Royaumont. She sang under the direction of Emmanuelle Haïm in a tribute concert to organist Jean-Claude Reynaud, and with the Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris in the French premiere of Karawane conducted and composed by Esa- Pekka Salonen.
She works regularly with the ensembles Aedes, Les Métaboles and Musicatreize.
In 2024, Juliette sang during the season at the Opéra-Comique with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris conducted by Louis Langré in the concert ‘Voyage au pays de Maurice Ravel’, and filmed the TV program ‘Fauteuils d’orchestre’ a few days later with the same artistic team. She was also a soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C at the church of Saint-Louis en l’Île.
This summer, she will sing Les Nuits d’été by Berlioz with the orchestra L’Isle Joyeuse in Paris.
During the 2025/26 season, Juliette will perform the Second Witch and the Sailor in a new version of Dido & Aeneas with Les Surprises, staged by Pierre Lebon, with performances at the Opéra de Limoges, Clermont-Ferrand, Tourcoing, and Saint-Etienne. She will also sing in Der Messias by Handel/Mozart at the Opéra de Limoges, conducted by Nicolas André and staged by Lodie Kardouss.
